Cop It

Whole Lotta Magic

I've been on a Warriors kick ever since the game dropped. I've also been pumping "the Mask" off of the Danger/Doom album. Metal Face and Tony Starks...like beans and rice on the mic device.

Come Out and Play

Video games. Theyre not just for kids anymore.

Today is the release date for The Warriors, from Rockstar Games. Can you dig it? If you havent seen the ads or heard the buzz about this game than you may be living under a rock. Or, simply outside the demo.

I dont even own a gaming system, but Im considering buying one for this. The film is a cult classic and its a safe bet the game will not dissapoint.

Off The Wall

Some times you need the new school to remind you to appreciate a true original. Vans steps: timeless. Supreme's style: fresh to death. The collabo, damn near perfect.

I haven't been on a skateboard in years, and I was never any good. But I can respect style. These joints are wisdom, hot buttered popcorn, and super slick sh*t that hits. Go get two pairs.

battle

The MTV2 show Nike Battlegrounds is the first "reality" program Ive enjoyed in a few years. The executive producers? None other than Weiden & Kennedy. Its essentially a mini series/long form advertisement for Nike. But whose complaining?

Yes, branded entertainment always features brands, but it doesnt always deliver on the entertainment proposition. This show does. Not only for basketball fans, Battlegrounds is shot exceptionally and edited superbly. The result is an aesthetically vivid picture of the game. It features real drama, a love for sport, and digs into the heart of competition. Something we all can relate to.

Needles Dropped

I am not exactly sure how I feel, but I feel something. At the very least, this thing looks cool- like a spacecraft from the final battle scene in Star Wars (ep IV).

I caught a glipmse of it in the recent issue of Elemental Magazine, the one with Doom's mask gracing the cover. It made me want to head over to the East Village for a pitstop at Turntable Lab (http://www.turntablelab.com/index1.html), which always has some great equipment and some classic 12" joints from the golden era.

Not that I've bought records in a while, but Im feeling a little nostalgic today for jeep beats and summer heat, Brooklyn circa 1992.

Drag City

Click on this for a closer look, cuz the above image does not do justice to what is a great collage from Eroc. In the interest of full disclosure, he is an old and close friend, so Im a bit biased.

I dont usually respond to political art, but Id say this is more satire than anything else. Well, satire, glue stick and a healthy distrust for the world's leaders.

Ill be putting up more from my boy 'e' in the coming weeks, but "Drag, 2005" deserved its own post.

The Message (and the Medium)

My friend Aaron Rosen takes some amazing pictures. I'm continuosly inspired by his ability to find the color, complexity and beauty in the simple things that we pass by everyday on the street. In the movie Im making of my life, he is going to be the cinematographer.

FYI, were still casting for the female lead. Headshots are welcome.

Searching For the Sound

Every six months or so I rediscover the Grateful Dead. The Wall of Sound (above), traveled with the band in 1973 and 1974. I immediately hear the tape hiss and tuning that kicks off my casette of the 2/9/73 show at the Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto when I think of this custom speaker rock spectacle behemoth. Ohhh, the firsts at that memorable performance in California: Row Jimmy, Loose Lucy, Here Comes Sunshine, Eyes of the World, China Doll, Wave That Flag/US Blues , and They Love Each Other. Sheesh.

Still, my all time favorite Dead gig to listen to is the Old Renaissance Fair Grounds "Field Trip" on August 29, 1972 in Veneta.

Time machine sh*t.
