Searching For the Sound

Every six months or so I rediscover the Grateful Dead. The Wall of Sound (above), traveled with the band in 1973 and 1974. I immediately hear the tape hiss and tuning that kicks off my casette of the 2/9/73 show at the Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto when I think of this custom speaker rock spectacle behemoth. Ohhh, the firsts at that memorable performance in California: Row Jimmy, Loose Lucy, Here Comes Sunshine, Eyes of the World, China Doll, Wave That Flag/US Blues , and They Love Each Other. Sheesh.

Still, my all time favorite Dead gig to listen to is the Old Renaissance Fair Grounds "Field Trip" on August 29, 1972 in Veneta.

Time machine sh*t.
