Mega large was last Sunday's The NY Times piece, but folks have been talking about The Hold Steady for a while now.

In January of 2005 my friend Erin suggested I come see them play at the Mercury Lounge, where I stuck around look after her departure to experience every last moment of their amazing set.

Afterwards I found myself at Joes Pub, drunkenly dissing the performers there to a woman who I learned as she asked me to leave, was the promoter. I almost got hit by a cab crossing Lafayette as I documented the evening in a late night vitriotic voicemail still saved on my boy E's cellular.

Anyway, Boys and Girls... is out. Go get it.
