Saint Alfred consistently drops hot designs. These two that just started floating around are collaborations with streetwear pioneers Stussy and Huf.

HERE COME THE DRUMS

Supreme and P.E. Respect. Last year's connect was fresh, especially the Vans trifecta. But this new batch of breaks are off the hanger and shelf (on Lafayette this month).

We're An American Band

Mega large was last Sunday's The NY Times piece, but folks have been talking about The Hold Steady for a while now.
In January of 2005 my friend Erin suggested I come see them play at the Mercury Lounge, where I stuck around look after her departure to experience every last moment of their amazing set.
Afterwards I found myself at Joes Pub, drunkenly dissing the performers there to a woman who I learned as she asked me to leave, was the promoter. I almost got hit by a cab crossing Lafayette as I documented the evening in a late night vitriotic voicemail still saved on my boy E's cellular.
Anyway, Boys and Girls... is out. Go get it.

still crazy after all these years

DASH

dash's polaroids are arresting. this selection shows a softer side, but does not do him justice. check tim barber's site for the hook up (and dont sleep, check what else tim's checking).

dash's show at rivington arms and his work featured in the most recent biennial show a more contemplative side. still dark as fuck though. heres what the times has to say about a recent show at the proposition:

"Dash Snow is best known for his insider photographic record, alternately poetic and gross, of a fast-living segment of the contemporary art scene. In the large-scale photomontages here, though, he stretches into a broader, looser, less documentarian mode in images that touch on political violence and conservative thinking, without abandoning the wit and sexiness of his earlier work. It will be interesting to see where Mr. Snow's new expansiveness takes him. "

Pop Pop Pop Goes The Dime

Who is the greatest living pop artist? What is pop art?

James Rosenquist's retrospective at the Gugg in late 2003 was my first real introduction to his art, but one filled with many relevant contact points. Oh, it's pop art. The color, the geometry, the imagery, the politics, the commercialism and the irreverance...sometimes subtle, sometimes not, Rosenquist's works spoke to me immediately.

Last week the Time Warner Center, hosted "Coffee, Flavour, Ideas" where illy promoted their collaboration with Rosenquist on a new limited edition can design and and a set of cups to add to their collection along with Jeff Koons, David Byrne, Robert Rauschenberg, Francis Coppola and a slew of others.

illy first hooked up with Rosenquist in 1996 when he was asked to remix their logo...fitting for a man who started his career painting billboard advertisements. Art and commerce, like coffee and milk...two great tastes that taste great together. I couldnt make it to the illy event, but Justin hooked me up with a signed coffee can.
